The follow-up to Guillermo del Toro’s 2014 mech vs kaiju spectacle, Pacific Rim, Pacific Rim: Uprising(formerly Pacific Rim: Maelstrom) is a curious beast that is still clouded by studio secrecy even though it’s due to launch March 23, 2018. Directed by Daredevil season 1 showrunner, Steven DeKnight, and starring Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ John Boyega as the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost from the first film, nobody is sure what to expect.  But Legendary-Universal plan on stunning fans with the premiere of the first trailer. Stomp on over to the Pacific Rim: Uprising panel on Friday, October 6th at 12 p.m., with director Steven DeKnight, John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Burn Gorman, and Cailee Spaeny attending.

I’ve updated the gallery with photos of John attending the Power of Young Hollywood party celebrating him, Zendaya & Chloë Grace Moretz being on the cover of their upcoming annual issue. Check out the photos from the party and the video of John’s shoot.

“One movie can’t change your life to the point where you can’t walk the streets,” he tells Variety. “I go to the supermarket. I do my own shopping. I go out to the park with my friends. I go to the movies. Some people recognize me, but with most it doesn’t register.”

Boyega’s good looks and intensity have earned him comparisons to a “young Denzel.” His role as Finn, a former stormtrooper turned rebel warrior, in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” propelled him to the top of casting directors’ lists. In the wake of the film’s success, he’s lined up showy roles in a “Pacific Rim” sequel and Kathryn Bigelow’s “Detroit.” But Boyega knows that in Hollywood, stardom is fleeting. One moment your face is popping up on T-shirts and lunchboxes; a few years later and you’re lucky to be headlining a movie of the week. [Source]

Legendary-Universal’s “Pacific Rim: Uprising” has been delayed yet again: moving back a month from Feb. 23 to March 23.

The sequel stars John Boyega of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in the follow-up to 2013’s “Pacific Rim.” Steven S. DeKnight directs from a script he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin from a story by Guillermo del Toro.

The cast includes Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona, and Charlie Day.

Producers are del Toro, Jon Jashni, Femi Oguns, Mary Parent, and Thomas Tull. The film is set a decade after the original, which took place in 2025. Boyega is playing the son of Idris Elba’s character, who sacrificed his life in the first film. [Source]

I’ve updated the gallery with high quality screencaptures of John in his latest movie The Circle. The movie itself didn’t do well in the box office but it was a great opportunity to see John in the same movie as stars like Tom Hanks & Emma Watson.

John was featured on the cover of GQ’s August issue. I’ve updated the gallery with the shoot & the digital scans of the issue.

A Stormtrooper lay in the sand, sealed in the white plastic shell of a uniform better suited for a climate-controlled area: like, say, a Death Star. This particular Stormtrooper had defected and crashed on the desert planet Jakku. It was the fiercely shielded first shot of the fiercely hyped first teaser of the fiercely anticipated first Star Wars movie in a decade, so no one without a Disney contract knew who or where this Stormtrooper was as he fought to get off the dusty ground of what was actually Abu Dhabi. The story behind that image in the The Force Awakens was less fierce, more…awkward.

“Every time I’d move, the plastic would pinch my armpits,” the Stormtrooper says a few years later, reminiscing in his South London apartment as he removes the Indiana Jones hat he’s been inexplicably wearing indoors, exposing the neat high fade atop his dense five-foot-nine frame. “I’d rolled onto my bum, pushed up with my arms, then got onto my knees, struggling to get my thighs up. The sand was moving, and it was a struggle. I was out of breath. It was hot as hell. But I got my back up. And then I came into shot.” [More at Source]
