While they tell tales of Death Stars and daddy issues, the “Star Wars” movies are also stories about duality: how goodness and evil can coexist — on the same planet or inside the same person — and what happens when they collide on an intergalactic scale.

These themes are revisited once again in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” the eighth episode in the science-fiction saga that George Lucas started in 1977. “The Last Jedi,” which opens on Dec. 15, is the first to be written and directed by Rian Johnson (“Brick,” “Looper”). It follows the resounding success of “The Force Awakens,” directed by J. J. Abrams in 2015, about two young heroes, a scavenger named Rey (Daisy Ridley) and a renegade stormtrooper named Finn (John Boyega), caught up in the search for Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

The new film continues where “The Force Awakens” left off, as Rey and Luke are about to meet on the planet Ahch-To, and it promises a further exploration of their relationship to the sullen evildoer Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and his nefarious master, Snoke (Andy Serkis). It also features the final performance in the series from Carrie Fisher, who played Leia and who died last December.

At a running time of some two and a half hours, “The Last Jedi” continues the adventures of Finn and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and their adversaries Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) and General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson). Somehow it finds room for the new characters Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) and Vice Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern), and a wide-eyed alien species called porgs. [Source]

John, alongside his Star Wars co-stars stopped by Jimmy Kimmel a couple of days ago where they spent the time trying to not talk about the upcoming movie to avoid spoilers. Check out the photos and videos from the interview.

The follow-up to Guillermo del Toro’s 2014 mech vs kaiju spectacle, Pacific Rim, Pacific Rim: Uprising(formerly Pacific Rim: Maelstrom) is a curious beast that is still clouded by studio secrecy even though it’s due to launch March 23, 2018. Directed by Daredevil season 1 showrunner, Steven DeKnight, and starring Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ John Boyega as the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost from the first film, nobody is sure what to expect.  But Legendary-Universal plan on stunning fans with the premiere of the first trailer. Stomp on over to the Pacific Rim: Uprising panel on Friday, October 6th at 12 p.m., with director Steven DeKnight, John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Burn Gorman, and Cailee Spaeny attending.

Legendary-Universal’s “Pacific Rim: Uprising” has been delayed yet again: moving back a month from Feb. 23 to March 23.

The sequel stars John Boyega of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in the follow-up to 2013’s “Pacific Rim.” Steven S. DeKnight directs from a script he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin from a story by Guillermo del Toro.

The cast includes Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona, and Charlie Day.

Producers are del Toro, Jon Jashni, Femi Oguns, Mary Parent, and Thomas Tull. The film is set a decade after the original, which took place in 2025. Boyega is playing the son of Idris Elba’s character, who sacrificed his life in the first film. [Source]
